The long-standing Schauspiel Frankfurt is the largest theatre of the spoken word in the Rhine-Main region and is also well regarded across Germany as a platform with a nationwide profile. Oliver Reese has been theatre manager at Schauspiel Frankfurt since the 2009/10 season. 30 actors make up the fixed ensemble and form the core of the programme. Well-known directors such as Michael Thalheimer, Andreas Kriegenburg, Stephan Kimmig, Karin Henkel and René Pollesch stage performances at four venues: the Schauspielhaus, Kammerspiele, Box and Bockenheimer Depot.
Some 35 new productions are developed per season. As a repertory theatre, the plays on offer at the Schauspiel Frankfurt change daily. Besides classic productions from Goethe, Schiller, Lessing and Kleist, the programme also includes numerous premieres and first performances from, amongst others, Dennis Kelly and the multi-award winning writer Nis-Momme Stockmann.
Schauspiel Frankfurt also has programmes specifically aimed at children and young people. Club events and parties are regularly held at the Panorama Bar in the Schauspielhaus, which is open before and after all shows.
Performances with English supertitles are also offered at irregular intervals; please see our programme for further details.
