Georg Heisler and six other prisoners have escaped from their concentration camp. Alone, Georg makes his way, via Mainz, to Frankfurt. The camp commander orders seven crosses to be erected to which the recaptured prisoners will be tied. Finally, only the seventh cross remains empty but the hunt continues.
Anna Seghers started her antifascist novel in exile during 1938 while in her German homeland, her books were burnt. It will be the first performance of the play in Frankfurt.
