Oblong is a morally honest, serious little man, somewhat round about the middle, who regards his knighthood not only as a profession but also as a passion. When he is sent by royal decree to the remote Bulligrob Islands to stop the local baron his sharp mind, good heart and many local supporters help him to accomplish his mission. But then a dragon comes along... Robert Bolt, who wrote scripts for classic films like »Doctor Zhivago« and »Lawrence of Arabia«, wrote »Der kleine dicke Ritter« (originally »The Thwarting of Baron Bolligrew«) as a children's radio play for the BBC where it was first broadcasted in 1964. One year before, the Augsburger Puppenkiste brought the story to German television screens which coincided with the original book launch.
